Joe Lynberg
Home Base: Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica
Favorite Ocean Kayak & why: The Trident 13 angler is my favorite, it seemed a bit heavy at first, but as soon as you start paddling it just pushes thru the water with very little effort. It has lots of storage room, the rod pod allows me to store my gear before entering the surf and when coming ashore without the risk of losing anything due to unexpected waves.
About Joe: Originally from Centralia, Washington, Joe has always had a passion for fishing. Twelve years ago after Culinary School, the opportunity to cook in Costa Rica led him to Puerto Jimenez and Crocodile Bay Lodge. After a few years, he left his hot kitchen behind and started guiding tourists on eco-adventures into the jungle and multi-day kayak trips around the Golfo Dulce. It was during these trips that he seriously took up kayak fishing.
He turned this new passion into a thriving business, outfitting a few Scrambler XLs into fishing machines. He does all the extreme stuff like chase sailfish and big dorado with support boats offshore, but chasing "Gallos" that haunt the "Sweet Gulf" is his real niche. Some of the best fishing he does is a few paddle stroke from his home port, "Gringolandia".
Joe has appeared on four episodes of the Kayak Fishing Show with Jim Sammons as well as Game On 3, catching some of the biggest Pacific Sailfish ever caught in kayaks and 160 pound Tarpon on the Rio Colorado.
