Favorite Ocean Kayak and why: The Ocean Kayak Trident 13 is my favorite fishing tool, as it quietly gets me to locations I was previously unable to reach. In addition, it's so easy to paddle, maneuver, and very stable when I want to stand and cast. With the Modular Fishing Pod I can easily access the inside of my kayak, allowing me to dry store my gear, extra fishing pole, spare paddle, and most importantly my umbrella for when the sun gets too hot and I want some shade! I tend to go with the saying "less is more" when it comes to kayak fishing, but with the Mod Pod outfitting capabilities I must admit the sky is the limit.

If you are new to kayak fishing, I suggest starting simple with just a fishing rod and the necessary fishing tackle and emergency equipment on board. When your trying to land your first fish and things get chaotic, you'll quickly understand why having only the basics is a good way to start. I know you'll want more, but believe me when I say, you'll add more to your kayak fishing arsenal eventually.

FISH HARD AND HAVE FUN! Don't forget your camera...

Jean McElroy ThirdAbout me: Fishing for me started at around age 8. I rode my bicycle with the cute little basket & handlebar tassels to a local bait & tackle shop to fish at the dock and under the bridge. Growing up I dreamed of working on a drift fishing boat and teaching people to fish. My parents to this day have no idea how I became interested in fishing, because neither of them fished! I continued enjoying fishing from beaches, bridges and boats for many years. Then came the discovery of kayak fishing after bringing a fishing rod "along for the ride" on a kayak camping trip with some friends. It was love at first cast.

Species that I enjoy targeting are Snook, Redfish, Trout, and of course Tarpon! I'm primarily a catch & release fisherman, so hopefully I'm doing my part to preserve our marine fisheries for the future.

Jean McElroy SecondThe reason I love kayak fishing is because one moment it's relaxing and peaceful, and the next moment it can be complete chaos...it's a bit of an adrenaline rush! I love the freedom to paddle and fish almost anywhere. I also enjoy encouraging others to appreciate and explore our environment and to share with them my passion for kayak fishing and Florida nature. Remember, your Ocean Kayak is not only an amazing fishing machine...it's a tool to get you into some of the best areas for wildlife and bird watching.
