Favorite Ocean Kayak and why
: I have two Favorites. First, a Red Scupper Pro; circa 1993. This was my first Ocean Kayak and the device that introduced me to the kayak fishing community. Second: My Blaze Orange Trident 13 because it's both fast and stable, it'll take me anywhere and it likes to catch big fish.
About Chris: Waterman and Professional Adventure Guide Christopher Mautino has spent most of his life on, in, or near the ocean. Chris grew up an avid surfer, fisherman and free diver in Southern California and got his start in kayaking in 1981. Since that time, he’s worked as an elite kayak fishing guide and instructor all over the planet. Chris’ passion for the sea is truly contagious and a degree in Fisheries Biology is a good compliment to his outdoor guiding skills.
In 2004 Chris started Liquid Adventures, a seasonal outfitting business based in Seward, Alaska. Licensed by Alaska’s Fish and Game department and the U.S Coast Guard, Captain Chris currently guides kayak anglers in search of monster Halibut and super-sized Salmon. Chris is often featured in print and promotional media, is a Pro-Staffer for several manufacturers and is a regular presenter at symposiums and instructional clinics.
Exploring Mexico’s magnificent Baja Peninsula is another of Chris’ passions. With more than 2000 miles of coastline and dozens of offshore islands, remote Baja lends itself to endless adventures. “It’s my favorite place on the Planet”. On one trip of note, Chris paddled the length of the Sea of Cortez, a 42-day solo kayak journey.
